India’s Paragliding Capital:
It is India’s Paragliding Capital, and the second-best paragliding spot in the world. Bir is the take-off point for paragliding, while Billing is the landing site. Paragliding requires calm winds to allow for a good takeoff. Paragliders, and anyone else who is interested in trying this thrilling sport, travel from all parts of the globe when the cloud base and air currents are right. Bir Billing is a popular destination for paraglider guides. Bir Billing offers many courses. The shortest course lasts ten days and costs 30,000 USD. A longer paragliding course lasts for 30 days.
Bir Billing was a great place to elope for the weekend, as it wasn’t too crowded. To get to our vacation spot, we booked a taxi with a driver. We decide that the best day to travel to Bir Billing is the 15th of Nov. It’s the big day, and I am giddy with excitement. After I’ve finished my work, I feel exhausted and have a sense of uncontrollable excitement. After preparing a bag with water and snacks for the trek, we begin our journey. After an hour and a quarter on the road, my friends and I feel hungry. We made a decision to have dinner and didn’t even think about it.
Himachal Pradesh’s hilly area:
Around 4 p.m. I close my eyes, rubbing them and looking out the window. But the sun is not yet out. The abundance of food made me fall asleep at the Dhaba. My driver told me that we were just a few minutes from the Himachal Pradesh hilly region. My excitement is evident and I am glued to the window, taking in the stunning scenery. Somya, my friend, also wakes up and is looking out at the sky, eagerly awaiting the sun to shine. Around 4 p.m. I look out the window and rub my eyes, but the sun has not yet come out. It takes a while for the sun to come out, but eventually it does. It was a stunning sunset that reflected through the mountains creating an amazing display of vibrant colours. The sky is a mix of blue and yellow with hints orange and yellow. Although we have our cameras, there aren’t enough words or photos to adequately convey what dawn saw.
We stop at Maggi Point for brunch as the rain starts to fall. The cafe is accessed via a flight green stairs. We are greeted by Rocky the adorable golden retriever, and not only the charming couple who run the cafe, but also the lovely old ladies who serve delicious breakfast every morning. Abeer still remembers her dog from back home.
Mcleodganj:
We arrived in Mcleodganj at 11 a.m. because we had limited time. Many shops sell souvenirs and junk jewellery which you can buy. After passing the Bhagsunag shrine, we began our journey. It is not an easy hike. The path is uneven and rough. You should therefore take it slow and not rush. Drink the cool water from the pipes whenever you feel tired. After much puffing and panting, we finally reach the waterfalls. They are stunning. We find a spot in the jute-covered corner and take our seats.
From McLeodGanj, it takes just 3 hours. You will want to stay for ever as the route is filled with bright, colorful cottages. We arrived at Shivarama Glamping at 5 p.m. because we were looking for a great camping experience.
Bir Billing Paragliding:
I am excited for the next day, and it is nearing. We pack up our tent and head towards Billing. Paragliding instructors and professionals are present. We talk with them about using their services. I’m excited for the next day, and am thrilled to see them again. This seat is made to fit you so I can confidently say that it is the most comfortable I have ever sat on. The birds-eye view of dense green trees and the towering mountains in the distance is something I will never forget. In 15 to 20 minutes, we arrive at Billing, our landing site. I know I will always remember the incredible height I reached and I will cherish it for the rest my life. If I am lucky enough, I will be able to experience this feeling again.
