Wireless Planning and Coordination (WPC) which is part of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), India is responsible for the frequencies and also awarding licenses of wireless products. The other package of services provided by WPC is the Equipment Type Approval (ETA) certification. Devices that are wireless and cause transmissions within unlicensed frequencies, which do not fall under the approved categories, require an ETA.
The following is a list of documents and certifications you need to obtain ETA certification for wireless devices.
Certifications Required –
- ETA Certification: Known as ETA, this certification is issued by WPC for low-power devices like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, RFID, and other wireless technologies. It ensures the device complies with Indian regulations for use in specific frequency bands.
- Import License (if applicable): However, other requirements include an Import License issued by Wireless Planning & Coordination WPC Certification India for importing wireless devices into the country in addition to the ETA certification.
Documents Required for ETA Certification –
Application Form:
The applicant should fill in basic information about themselves and the wireless devices in a correctly completed application form.
Technical Specification Sheet:
Write all the details of the structure of the device, and its frequency band, output power, spectrum modulation, and all other features.
RF Test Reports:
WPC regulations ensure device safety for users and require RF test reports to prove compliance. Accredited test laboratories generate these test reports. This report includes –
- Frequency range
- Transmit power
- Channel bandwidth
- Modulation type
Manufacturer’s Authorization Letter:
Provide details of the device’s structure, frequency band, output power, spectrum modulation, and other features.
User Manual:
The user manual should be provided giving instructions about how the gadget works and its various features.
Undertaking Letter:
A statement asserting that the undertaking has complied with the rules and regulations and/or other standards about the said device.
Company Documents:
The Certificate of Incorporation or the GST registration of the applicant company, a photocopy of the passport or the driver’s license, and another document to prove the address of the authorized signatory.
Import-related Documents (if applicable):
You should also present the invoice for the imported devices. The manufacturer must provide an authorization letter, or if the manufacturing company is in another country, the manufacturer from that country can provide the letter.
Frequency Allocation Letter (if required):
If a device is used in particular operating bands, then an additional letter of allocation from WPC Certification is required.
The necessary documents and application must be sent to the concerned WPC through the Saral Sanchar portal to get an ETA. Of course, the certificate of the ETA is issued after review and approval by WPC Certification. The ETA certification is a significant measure of wireless devices to meet the frequency emission rules within India. The necessary documentation and certifications in adherence to the application process, help the businesses to ease their entry into the market for their Wireless Products.
